I think the full archive freeze bought us things that britney doesn't.
1) It allows us to review uploads. This is quite important. At this
point in the cycle, I stop trusting that uploaders can tell apart
a bug fix from a massive new feature, and I also just like that
everything gets a second set of eyes, even if a cursory glance.
2) It keeps things completely out of -proposed, if we prefer not to
have them. This beats us ending up with a bunch of cruft in the
pocket two days before release that we'll have to dump on the floor.
3) It allows us to review uploads. Also, it lets us review uploads.
Honestly, if we had the manpower, I'd gate every upload through a
manual reviewer. We can't do that, so we don't, but at this point
in the release, it's always felt like a good trade-off to me.
I'll let this sink in before I do anything by fiat, but since I have
the keys to the kingdom and all, if no one objects to this in the next
twelve hours or so (better yet if I get some nodding heads), I'll go
ahead and freeze raring in the evening.
