Ubuntu bug reporting - upgrade broke my VM

Hi,

I use a Ubuntu VM under VMWare Workstation 15 player but the latest batch of
upgrades broke the GUI console. Instead of a purple login window it was
rather a purple blank screen and nothing I did could change it.

SSH still worked ok but I had to restore from a backup of the host machine
to get it back.

I tried allowing updates again and it broke again, are you interested in
additional info to investigate? I could copy it, clean out my stuff and let
you have a copy if that would help?
