Upgrading to 16.04 can render the system permanently broken

Ok so now it's been  two days, and Software Updater is still offering the
upgrade.

"De-releasing" 16.04 until it is decently usable should be easy, shouldn't
it?

Now I've just read about a kernel issue causing the mouse to stop working.
THE F***ING MOUSE, for god's sake.
