no installation of programs during a live session in virtualbox

Maybe it is my system itself. But I notice when installing packages on
xubuntu, the installation goes very slow, almost as if it is not installing
at all. This happens when testing using vbox. If I test on bare metal,
things work fine. I may have to do a little hardware upgrading in the
future.
