Some other things you might think about are:
Are you using the same version of wget?
Has the server changed at all?
Which version of the KDE DVD are you downloading? If it were the Natty
one, the development release, I'd expect something odd to happen.

You might try the netboot iso:
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/natty/main/installer-i386/current/images/netboot/
It is about 20M.
