regression finding tools?

Hallo QA testers.
I test ubuntu for some years. Most of the time i have to do with some 
frustrated regressions. SO i just starting looking for some tips to make 
  testing painless. Some scripts to pars dpkg log, tools for snapshoting 
to make sort of bisecting will help a lot. Do you have any ideas, howtos 
   , experiences? every thing will help.

For short time i tried to work with lvm snapshots each week.. it was 
great, but some times the system can't boot because of snapshot... i 
don't know if it's bug or future.
