Kernel Bug Migration Notice

Hi Guys,

As many of you already know, during the Hardy development cycle the
kernel source package naming convention changed from
'linux-source-2.6.xx' to just 'linux'. Going forward, kernel bugs
should be reported against the 'linux' package. It is important to both
the Ubuntu QA and Kernel Teams that bugs open against older kernels be
carried forward if they still exist in the actively developed kernel.

Since there are quite a few bugs still open against older Ubuntu
kernels, it would be a time consuming process to move each bug forward
manually. That's why we've acquired the help of some Launchpad
developers to help automate a portion of this process[1]. We're
targetting to make this package transition later this evening pending
successful trial runs in the staging area first. The only minor
disruption you should notice will be a few extra emails from the
launchpad janitor _if_ you happen to be subscribed to a kernel bug
report which gets updated.

I just wanted to give you a quick notice about this. I've also already
raised this with the kernel team[2] and have given them additional
reminders[3] of this migration.

Thanks,
Leann
