Hey! "Ubuntu killed the Dell..." Any OS could kill your monitor by setting it at a resolution and frequency it was NOT designed for. Of course, some monitors would show it right away (damage) but some would malfunction for sometime before going south. Secondly, power problems and ventilation could kill your monitor and or your computer. (Based on first hand experience!! he he he!) The technical repair staff could kill your monitor by replacing the capacitors in your monitor ( remember capacitor = frequency). (based on first hand experience as i have to get my monitor repaired several times before it went complete haywire!!!) Of course after it was repaired I could use my monitor for some time then it goes back to its old problem then repair again and again. Name brands doesn't equate to competent people - say IBM, Canon technical staff ( i'm not generalizing but to some all people who comes from this co's must be competent!! ha ha and they get paid much more and why are they in this company! (excuse me - my problem na pala ito). You could search deeper to ubuntu hardware compatible or debian compatible hardware or specifics what the company's laptop is video card, monitor resolution - try opening the laptop monitor if you see fresh solder capacitor - you got your culprit! You already told them that the LCD problem exists even when you're running windows. Seems that their resistance is so great, they're not even willing to listen to you. In my case, I conducted a lot of orientation/awareness discussions with users -- before and after migration. And (quite subtly, I must say), always emphasized that Ubuntu is not the problem, but their mindsets are. Top management should support your direction if you want it to work out. Then they send to Dell for repair and now its happen again. The office refused to send to Dell service center again because according to them I damaged it because I am using Ubuntu and not Windows. This is a Microsoft-centric office and its very easy for the organization to blame Linux in general as damaging to PCs. I have been running Ubuntu and other FOSS applications to show them that there is an alternative to buying sinful software licenses. We are a development organization, helping poor island communities and we have spend more than 300,000 pesos just for software licenses when that money can go a long way for facilitating development activities in poor communities. Can I just ask some help how to argue myself that or how to go about it that Ubuntu or any Linux did not cause the damage to the LCD of this laptop?
