Hi All!

Just to give my "two-cents" on this: I think i have watch a show featuring India's IT pioneer of something related to this. ( I forgot if it's on Convergence(NET 25), BBC World or Channel News Asia) the focus on technology is on weather forecasts and market value of crops and fisheries products. To at least minimize middle-men who make farmers and fisher folks products. With computer/software and satellite receiver (microwave antennas) plus solar power technology. I think you guys get the "picture". Minor setback is funding of course if we could have a company sponsor it and laid out the details for them to profit a little plus community service advertisements of sorts for them. If we could get the government on this but they(government) is too slow. Sorry I don't have much time so I couldn't volunteer on this.

A lot of NGO's are working with these farmers, how about someone talk to them about centralizing their databases and forms so that the red tape is cut and they can focus on helping the farmers. Im sure a huge chunk of the budgets of these NGO's go to their operational costs. With a more efficient system, these cost can now be reallocated to do what they were supposed to, that is to help farmers, fishermen etc.

Computer literacy, would be an issue with the farmers and fishermen so time may be better spent on those NGO's whose sole purpose should be to help these people. I know these NGO's get a lot of funding from foreign NGO's and I think it is a shame that a lot of money may only be going to their operating costs ie: 9/11(only 10 cents per dollar given to the victims ever got to them because the people in charge of helping them wasted the money on bureaucracy.
