sudo apt-get libtrash
LIBTRASH
A trash can library to use with LD_PRELOAD
libtrash is a shared library which, when preloaded,
implements a trash can under GNU/Linux. This way, your
mistakes (at least those of the "rm -rf dir /" class :-))
will no longer cause the loss of a week's work or your
system's binaries.

As long as you delete a file or folder from a terminal, even from
Konsole or
XTerm, it's gone for good. Trash is only for GUI deletions. But I
think
there's an app you can install which will move deleted files to a Trash
folder. It will take over the rm command.... I just forgot its name.
