Trash resides in user's home directory.

/home/{username}/.Trash

for root user it's
/root/.Trash

yes. caveat, as in windows, files deleted via the command line
or in programs you write don't go to the Trash bin. The recycle
bin will contain files which were deleted by programs that
are recycle bin aware. In fact I'm not clear what other programs
are recycle bin aware since the only such program I use is
nautilus :-).

to get a trash bin on your status bar (i'm doing this in gnome,
you can likely do something very similar in kubuntu),

in the notification area (or on any panel), right click and
select "Add to Panel". In the Desktop and Windows section,
there's a Trash icon. select that and click Add.
