yeah DSL and PuppyLinux are good options...but only suggested Xubuntu
because he needed Debian based distro.

His laptop runs at the speed of 60MHz, and with only 48MB of RAM. I
think Xubuntu is not suitable for this old laptop.
At Xubuntu's site heres the minimum requirements:

Minimum system requirements

To run the Desktop CD (LiveCD + Install CD), you need 128 MB RAM to run
or 192 MB RAM to install. The Alternate Install CD only requires you to
have 64 MB RAM.
To install Xubuntu, you need 1.5 GB of free space on your hard disk.
Once installed, Xubuntu can run with 64 MB RAM, but it is strongly
recommended to have at least 128 MB RAM.

And Wilson has only 48MB not to mention the speed of  his CPU. He has
2.9GB of Hard Disk space, while Xubuntu needs 1.5GB of minimum free
space by default. Xubuntu needs to have at least a minimum of 128MB. If
he knows Debian well, and can install that distro from floppy images, I
may recommend these lightweight applications to be installed:
