[Ubuntu-PH] ubuntu-ph Digest, Vol 20, Issue 22

To clear the air about common monitor problems,
including LCD vis a vis CRT (Cathode Ray Tube)
conventional monitors, here are some quick known
troubleshooting facts.

a) Like i reiterated before, no OS can break a monitor
whether it be a CRT or an LCD type.
b) if and when there are problems with display
resolutions, such as when you set it to a high res say
1280x1024, most ordinary monitors, specially those
within the 14inch range, pix will do a "horizontal
frequency tumble" and all you'll see is an out of sync
image. Newer LCD monitors, especially those in laptop,
support much higher resolutions.
c) common capcitor values in microfarad are sometimes
upped especially with the voltage ranges, since the
default values in the original design tend to be
lackluster in performance. (production hassles,
nagtitipid, etc). bad experiences with repair staff
like incompetence can lead to return jobs (when the
repair staff cannot pinpoint which component is really
the culprit. capacitor is not equal to frequency. it
determines the frequency in combination with other
components such as resistors and coils and is just a
small part of the bigger picture, like when it runs in
the horizontal and vertical circuits of your said
monitor.
d) a CRT monitor and and LCD monitor are not built the
same. they have similarities in principle but their
schematics are way too different.
e) a CRT monitors capacitor and an LCD monitor are not
the same in construction. a crt monitor uses can-type
electrolytics that leak out acid when defective. an
LCD monitor uses chip type capacitors which don't have
any liquid chemicals on it.

Conclusion:

Ubuntu didn't break your LCD's monitor. I hope this
sheds light on many common misconceptions circulating.
