This bug has been open for 1.5 years with no updates; I'd suggest that
the fix is proposed upstream with appropriate tests; marking as a won't
fix for distro.

Bug description:
  The defacto standard "https://[2001:db8::3]:5555/path/to/location"
  syntax is not supported for urls, nor is any ipv6 address.
