Title:
cannot access /mnt/storage even through symlinks from $HOME

Status in Snappy:
  Triaged
Status in snapd package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
For example, user wants to install VLC and use it as a video player:

  sudo snap install vlc

This will install VLC and make it possible to run. The VLC application
runs smoothly and can open files in a user's home directory.

But, if user have a symlinks in his home directory, this symlinks
doesn't work. For example, if the user have a symlink like
/home/user/video->/mnt/storage/video, VLC cannot open files from
/home/user/video, it's not even show this symlink.

I assume, that such restrictions were introduced to ensure security,
but can they be lifted a little? There is no other way to access user
files from snap outside snap directory, and this can make a lot of
  end-user soft useless.
