[ubuntu-nz] 11.04 freezes when playing dvd

typical !!! i tried runing top in terminal all good so fired up dvd
drive....an hour later no probs at all had a bit of jerky playback and
that was (according to top) update-apt-xapi useing 96.6% cpu other than
that its fine ??????
just like when you take the car in due to odd noises only for it to be fine
when the mechanic drives it
