IIRC, all the black magic, virgin sacrificing stuff had been removed
from xorg.conf by Ubuntu 8, and it autioconfigured, so...

(sudo) dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg 

should do it ( especially if you can connect it through a digital
conncetion rather than VGA ). Restart X with Ctrl-Alt-Backspace
afterwards.

If not, can you post your /etc/X11/xorg.conf ?? Also the relevant part
of the output from lspci that defines the graphics card.
