Most drives can only be set a couple of times... however decss
requires that a region be set (4 for nz
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_region_code) else it can fail to
decrypt some dvds.
Its my understanding that *some* dvd drives (RPC2) require a region to
be set even if the player (vlc etc) ignores the setting
If you had windows on the machine the windows software would have
insured a region had been set
