Here's sources.list, with comments:

DNS seems otherwise fine. I'm writing from the linux machine, so I haven't tried pinging Google (yes, I just have, to be sure. It works fine: 160ms)

I have tried using other repositories, and I asked it to 'choose best' -- it found nz2.ubuntu... or whatever.
