[ubuntu-nz] Ubuntu won't boot after installing latest updates to 9.1

thanks Tim, I think you may be right there.  It is a new laptop and it 
runs a layer of Toshiba Proprietory software on it.   I will seek help 
locally if I can find it.  I like Ubuntu and run it on my desktop with 
no problems, but in the short term I may have to admit defeat and run 
the laptop on Win7.  many thanks for your help geoff
