A note, without having necessarily read all the context.

Old versions are unsupported.  They *will* have unpatched security issues
and exploits, local or remote.  *Don't run them*.

If your concern is getting older hardware running, try something like
Xubuntu or Damn Small Linux (or work extra hard at your paper run and buy a
new computer).  Running Warty again, five years later, is a recipe for being
pwned.
