You can write udev rules for just this type if thing
udev would then create a known symlink to the correct device for you.
I do this for myth myth box to stop /dev/video0 and /dev/video1
swapping around (very annoying behaviour, mythbuntu guys are working
on it)
I keep thinking there needs to be a UI for writing udev rules... I
have a python cli script some where around, its made for video cards
so it may need some tweaking..
