Hi all
Have we made progress with a new coordinator? I'm happy to stick my hand up if no one has so far. We mentioned a discussion on NZ projects, and in addition to a wallpaper I can think of a few.
1. Support for Maori. Another well known software vendor worked with the Maori Language commission to make this happen for them, and we could do the same.
2. Local councils. Most local councils will be going through annual plan rounds soon. We are all annoyed by rates rises. Why not suggest they move to OSS / Ubuntu instead of Windows? There are a lot of examples of other local councils doing the same out there now. We can all write in to our local council and make a submission to their annual plan along these lines.
3. We can also demand they support odf in government communications, pointing out that it is an ISO approved standard. This actually becomes an issue of democratic access-i.e. government should not be dictating what office software we run in order to communicate.
4. Schools. My children's school computer lab is chockfull of old hardware. An excellent opportunity for edubuntu / LTSP. There is no hope this hardware will ever run XP let alone Vista. We can offer expertise to our local schools in setting this up.
Any further thoughts?
Hinne
