if u are having problem with alsa try these commands:
sudo apt-get --purge remove linux-sound-base alsa-base alsa-utils
sudo apt-get install linux-sound-base alsa-base alsa-utils

i had a similar problem where i had problem with alsa and had no sound
playback...above commands worked for me. best of luck
