Hello,

If its a broadcom driver then follow the following steps. I guess its
broadcom card becoz many compaq's use broadcom and from the other emails too
it gives broadcom 4 out of 5.
*
IF internet can be managed for the laptop*

If you can somehow manage the internet access then you can just do "sudo
apt-get install b43-fwcutter"

And

*IF internet cant be managed for the laptop*

Well if you can not connect your laptop to internet then download the file
from the link given below from any computer with internet access:

http://archive.mitra.net.np/ubuntu/pool/main/b/b43-fwcutter/b43-fwcutter_013-2_i386.deb<http://archive.mitra.net.np/ubuntu/pool/main/b/b43-fwcutter/>

Save the file in a usb drive and install that in your laptop by double
clicking on it or "sudo dpkg -i /location/<packagename>.deb"

After that download file from this location:

http://mirror2.openwrt.org/sources/broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5.tar.bz2

Then, extract the archive and execute the following commands (without ""):

** "sudo b43-fwcutter -w /lib/firmware wl_apsta-3.130.20.0.o"
** "sudo b43-fwcutter --unsupported -w /lib/firmware
broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5/driver/wl_apsta_mimo.o"

It would be easier if you go to the directory where you have extracted the
files.

It worked on my bcm4312 wifi card. Hope it works for you too.

And after you get the wifi working... its not a big deal to install the
codecs. :D
