I agree with Pasi. The first question should be 'why?', not 'how?'. What is the purpose of this exercise? What is the expected outcome, and how would that benefit the LoCos?

I could see the benefits in keeping a common knowledge database. There is a bunch of very active people on the danish forum writing articles and compiling easy-to-use scripts for solving common issues. Having a shared database with more people cooperating on improving and keeping this knowledge updated could be a great combination of efforts. An issue though, could be if you actually want all information to be translated into all languages. I'm afraid this might put on such a big translation effort that it may very well kill the motivation for writing new stuff.

I create this mailinglist thread so we can continue to discuss this
after yesterdays IRC meeting.

From my point of view I can see the benefits of moving all the LoCos
webpages to one common website that is translated to all different
languages though I don't see it as realistic in the at least a year or
two. The idea must be introduced to respective LoCo and broad
consensus must be achieved before a move is made otherwise the risk of
loosing active members in the move is too big.

My best suggestion is to start with trying to set up a common
development infrastructure, compare different CMS and forum software
and go from there. The first step would be to introduce a nordic
community website and then when it's found mature a move could be
made, so for a few months nordic website would co-exist with
respective LoCo website.
To be honest, I don't think the technical side is to worry about. The person or group creating the website should decide what works best, after they've gotten the draft and specification for the website.

The most important thing is the content.

If we have a shared website, I think the content should be uniform too. Here's a few questions concerning that:
* What is the information we want on the site and what are different LoCos willing to agree on?
* Who would be willing to start drafting this common structure?
* How should we cooperate on creating the structure?
* How are possible disputes resolved?

Again, technically I'm looking at a few months long process. The work with the content will most possibly take longer than that, because all LoCos need to agree at least in some level.

I personally think the right way is to get hands dirty and start working on the common structure. Then we will have at least something to comment and improve. If something feels uncomfortable for some or all LoCos, then we'll at least find out the problematic spots as soon as possible. Ultimately this can lead to the decision to not create a shared website, but at least we didn't waste too much time in drafting it, including the technical side.

For starters, we will need people from all LoCos to work together on the structure. Let's not waste time arguing over the best CMS or "the right way to do it", since we don't even know what we want from the website.

Cheers,
