HAL es la parte que se encarga de el reconocimiento de Hardware en Ubuntu y
en otras distros... no se intenta ver si te automonta algún dispositivo
externo que tengas.

Puedes intentar con el comando:

hald

Que hará que el demonio HAL arranque
