I tell you one thing. You guys are not going to regret it. Take your minds away from the windows pattern. Don't join in the comparison battle between window and Linux. Don't hate windows because if you -like me- are in the I.T industry, you work with Windows more  than any other OS. There are a few nice apps you might want to get on your notebooks and netbooks Get 'Cheese' - it is great for your webcam Get 'gnome commander' it is powerful for directory copying Get 'wine' of course so u could run a few windows apps and games Get 'virtualbox' or of you can go through the installation work, vmplayer. you would be able to run windows inside and some other 'little' linux distros Get 'kde' an environment that is very 'eye candy' and gives you kde applications too. Get 'picasa' - you would love that for your pictures and basic photo editing, though you can also take a moment to learn gimp and you wouldnt regret the investment in time Finally, you must add 'vlc' - it plays almost everything in the world.
