Ok, then it's a pre-ubiquity issue. Let's start at the beginning, 
when one see the initial boot splash and animation, what is writing 
that to the screen and what display drivers are being used. I've seen 
the discussions about fbcon and vesafb being blacklisted, so what's 
the primary display driver.
