Derek Christensen confirmed that the question is solved:
Hi Mario,

Just checked and was able to install linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.22-9-generic version 2.6.22-9.22 (with the new kernel of course). Rebooted and checked for the lirc device.
Looked good.
$ ls -l /dev/|grep lirc
crw-rw---- 1 root root 61, 0 2007-07-29 12:42 lirc0
srw-rw-rw- 1 root root 0 2007-07-29 12:42 lircd
prw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 2007-07-29 12:42 lircm

I now have a lirc0 device and the remote is working! Many thanks for
your help!!

As an aside, Mythbuntu is fantastic. I've been running Mythtv's for at
least 5 years and I've tried all kinds of installs, transitioning from
RedHat to Gentoo to Debian (Knoppmyth) to Ubuntu and now Mythbuntu.
This was by far the easiest installation--and this is alpha stuff!
Ubuntu's hardware support is superb and the package you've put together
is very slick. I have a Pundit-s with a SIS graphics chipset and this
is the first time on any distribution that it was detected and set up
automatically. Add to that the automatic .htaccess set up that came
through on a recent Mythbuntu update and the built in lirc modules and
auto setup that just came through and that covers just about everything
for the typical install. VERY NICE!

So far this machine works perfectly. I'm going to try to scrounge up
some spare parts and put together another machine specifically for
testing to give you guys another platform to test against.

Many thanks,
Derek
