[ubuntu-mythtv] proper way to generate a patched kernel

Scott,

What makes you think that they would never be accepted into mainline
kernel?  Items can always be enabled/disabled in the mainline kernel. 
They can also be activated only when modules are loaded, or parameters
passed to the boot line.
