Guys,

In its bid to spur creativity - the key to national transformation, MAMPU is
organising inaugural 36-Hour Open Source Software Web Application
Development (OSS WebDev) Contest, which is to be recognised by the Malaysia
Book of Records as the 'Longest Open Source Software Programming Event'.

Contest teams taking part and completing this gruelling 36-hour OSS
programming event will be enshrined in Malaysia's 2010 Book of Records as
the record makers.

The goals of the contest are to motivate the enhancement of programming
skills, creativity and innovation, and to accelerate the growth of local OSS
developer community to build a talent pool of critical skills and expertise
for national transformation.

The contest is open to all Malaysians, formed in 3 person teams. The contest
teams comprising Government ASgency Group, Student Group and Open Group, are
required to develop an open source web application within 36 hours in the
confines of the contest hall.

Winning team in each contest group will be awarded RM1,500, with Runner-up
team receiving RM600. Among the 3 winners from each contest group, the
Best-of-the-Best will receive a bonus award of RM8,500, bringing total
winnings for the team to RM10,000 in total.

Hurry! The contest entry is still open for entry form submission until 1
September deadline. Fifteen contest teams will be short-listed to compete in
the actual event on 6-8 October.

This contest is a major event of Malaysia's premier annual OSS conference -
MyGOSSCON 2010. With the theme of “OSS:  Innovation for National
Transformation”, MyGOSSCON 2010 will be held at Putrajaya International
Convention Centre (PICC) on 2-3 November. Contest winners will be announced
and awards presented during the Opening Ceremony on 2 November.

In addition to the 36-Hour OSS WebDev Contest, other highlights of MyGOSSCON
2010 are OpenOffice.org School Competition, Public Sector OSS Case Study,
plenaries, tracks and tutorials, OSS Showcase Exhibition with more than 60
booths, Birds of a Feather (BOF) Cocktail and OSCC MAMPU new products
launch.
