[ubuntu-my] Mystery at the office, slightly off-topic

I had this mystery that happened to one of the PC at my workplace. This PC
alone, not other PCs.

When somebody touches the partition of the place where the PC was placed, it
shuts down immediately without hassle. I wouldn't regard this as a
convenient since this PC belongs to a HR staff. What happened if this person
is working on my paycheck and the computer shuts down? Major inconvenient
isn't it?

The thing is, it is only happened when somebody touches the partition
abruptly, not gently.

A thing to note; there's a lot of static charges around my workplace. When
you touch somebody for the first time, say, a handshake, a pop sound would
come out.

This PC runs Ubuntu 8.04 if that makes any difference, even though I doubt
it would.

Anyone ever accountered the same problem or have any idea how I could
prevent this?
