[ubuntu-my] difficulty spreading Ubuntu or any Linux

my view is that most people are just too reluctant to try something new
or different. most young computer users (students especially) grew up in
the age of Windows. hardly any know DOS even.
presented with a Ubuntu desktop, they are lost. they look for the Start
button or Control Panel or Nero or IE or MS Office..
the difficulty is not to make Linux easier to use but to change the
mindset of users. that is the challenge we face to promote a better
operating system.
as history has shown (think Betamax vs VHS), just being better does not
make it the standard.
