Fedora is red hat distribution? Red Hat based, okay. auto detects for
hardware? Even a small distro Slax does, I don't think any distro nowadays
lack of this capabilities.
....then...ubuntu has really strong software support especially there

Some distro based on ubuntu: kubuntu, fubuntu(probably ready soon),xubuntu,
edubuntu. Thanks for your info, it is more than just an example linspire.
They are more probably, someone can even create a customized live cd from
ubuntu customization kit and claim as a distro based on ubuntu.
when it change to become ubuntu based...ubuntu got click & install system

I can feel your excitement over here too =) enjoy, ubuntu is a good distro.
But certain distro do have multiple mirrors, depends on how popular it is.
Setuping up mirrors is not a big deal, anyone can do it, ask kage about that
if you are interested to make an apt repo.
Important software, different people have different needs, which makes us
unique. The most important one i can think off is kernel. Debian, which
ubuntu based on debian, you can install it entirely goes throgh internet,
without any cd. I think gentoo can too, possible to do that for ubuntu, if
they support that. 1000 software? lol which distro is that? 1000 software
is a round figure, cool distro
but we don't need it,you can install later what you want...like gstream..for
