package versions

Yet another thing to consider will be package version.

It looks like linspire is starting to distribute Ubuntu packages at
http://cnr.com/ So, now we have linspire, automatix and other 3rd
parties delivering packages to worry about.

I think that we should encourage 3rd party packages while making it very
clear that we can only accept bug reports from official Ubuntu packages.

The packages that seem to be important are firefox/thunderbird,
flash/gnash, jvm, and sound and video drivers.

Lets put together a list of versions we support and reject all
unsupported versions.

In the short term this will reduce the number of bugs we have to deal
with. In the long term, by concentrating our efforts on making our
official releases as good as possible we will eliminate to need for
third party packages.

Thanks
David
