Thanks for the extra information.

Would you be willing to try to narrow down the bug? If yes, a few things
you could do are:

*Try with the snap instead (`snap install firefox`).
*Try in a different window manager (`apt install icewm`, then log in to it instead of the Ubuntu session).

If it doesn't happen there, sure enough Mutter will like to hear about
it: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues.
