Speaking as someone who has worked in the innards of Thunderbird,
literally in the part of its code-base that would need to be changed to
support this functionality… It is likely that the reason why this was
easy for fairemail to implement is because fairemail is not burdened
with a decades-old C++ code-base which was over-engineered to begin
with, has accumulated layer upon layer of cruft and hacks, and is
enmeshed in a tangled web of dependencies which ensure that even a
trivial change to it could have unanticipated, unintended consequences
elsewhere in the app.

I 100% want the TB devs to fix this problem, but I do not think it is
fair to doubt them when they say it isn't trivial to solve.
