Thanks Wayne. It was the same without Status Bar. I renamed my Thundbird settings folder and created a new user profile to record the performance profile:

This was on an x64 mac, but the arm64 mac showed the same behaviour.
Thanks a lot for looking into this. It's not nearly as bad as when
originally reported, personally I can live fine with how it is.
Thunderbird is just amazing.
