Public bug reported:

this is a KNOWN problem as I have seen similar question on the Internet
and it appears that something screwed up with Thunderbird in recent
updates with their OAuth2  authentication method code. I am running
Thunderbird 60.9.0 which appears to be the latest available for Ubuntu
(Kubuntu) 16.04 LTS
