Is it Firefox or operating system bug? No problems in Chrome/Chromium/Opera, no problem found in Ubuntu 16.04 and LUbuntu 18.04. Nevertheless, the same problem occurs in LibreOffice (search field) and GIMP 2.10 (some settings) on Ubuntu/Kubuntu 18.04 using GNOME and Unity (installed manually). Maybe, the problem is belong to the text field component in the operating system.
If it is actually OS problem, the bug may be reported in the corresponding bug tracker.
