High CPU usage seems to be caused by status bar animation.

Quick fix for me (works on Ubuntu) is to disable the status bar (for
now).

Possible fix for THunderbird team: Remove this animation, and possibly
the entire current animation subsytem, and replace all progress bar
animations with something simpler, as I suspect that possibly all
animations currently use high CPU usage, but on a decent net connection
they do not display for very long (Jut a thought)
