Despite trying at various points throughout the day, I've not been able
to make it crash at all. I've been using it on Trusty/x86-64 for the
last hour and a half or so and it's not crashed once.

There must be something I'm missing here. Have you installed any third
party software at all? We had a problem a couple of weeks ago where
people were reporting Firefox not starting, and it turned out to be
caused by a dodgy Sophos AV update.
