I can confirm this as well.

Environment: Ubuntu 10.04.4  x86_64 (gnome 2.30.2)
Thunderbird: 17.0.5

"Bad key or directory name: "/desktop/gnome/url-
handlers/GMT+01/command": `+' is an invalid character in key/directory
names"
