Chris, does it help knowing that it takes a complete shutdown and
eventual restart to clear the issue? Neither a restart or a simple
session logoff/logon helps.

I'm still not seeing anything unusual in the log files, top or perf top,
but it's likely I'm not looking in the right spot ..
