I ran GtkPerf before and after triggering the problem.

Just after starting the computer running

~$ gtkperf -a

       Total time: 10.78

After triggering the issue by playing a movie via Totem, the system bogs
down and gtkperf -a gives a result of:

        Total time: 96.63
