I had the same problem on an Ubuntu 11.10 installation occurring some days ago. In Ubuntu software center the flash plugin was titled "Adobe Flash Plugin 10" and subtitled "Adobe Flash Player plugin version 11".
My workaround was to use synaptic to install adobe-flashplugin which replaced the formerly installed adobe-flashplugin:i386. I don't know why and how this 32bit software was installed on my 64bit system...
