Thank you for reporting this bug report. However I am unable to confirm
this. In fact, I generally do this whenever I reinstall Ubuntu. I
replace the entire .thunderbird folder with my old one so that all my
old emails are preserved.

My question is,

1. Do you replace the .thunderbird folder completely?
2. Do you just past your old thunderbird profile into the .thunderbird folder?

I can then try out what you did to see if this bug exists.
