Public bug reported:
a workaround is to kill firefox-bin process left open after firefox
closed. A new firefox session can then be opened. This seemed to start
after a firefox update where none of the old plug-ins were supported so
they were all turned off by the update. I don't know for sure that had
anything to do with it but it seemed like it might be related.
