[Bug 775722] [NEW] Upgraded to 11.04, no sound, no volume applett for or on menu pallet, all devices believed muted but can't control

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

I've upgraded to 11.04, all sound facilities have disappeared. System -
Prefs. - Sound never finds a system. No volume applet on Panel. Can't
find an applet to add to panel.

Have searched forum, can't find a resolution.

Also,

Display normally used Nvidia AGD version 173 prior to upgrade, now
states its activated but not in use. Can't get to unity desktop, can't
use special effects for desktop.
